Your SHIMA  has been keeping its ears to the ground, looking for unique opportunities to bring you quality education opportunities that are meaningful and valuable in our professional life.  People have commented on the excellence of the presentations in the past:  RAC Audit Preparation, Disaster Readiness and Lean Management Protocol.  SHIMA is pleased to offer you two workshops in back-to-back months led, as always, by highly qualified and accomplished presenters.  This time we've arranged to have outside professionals come and educate us on timely topics related to Coding and HIPAA/HITECH.  Keep reading to learn more about these presenters who have offered us their expertise in subjects so important to our continuing professional growth.
 
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 11th  – A Workshop focused on Coding
Joe L. Rivet is traveling to see us from Michigan.  He is a Coding Compliance Specialist from the firm of Hall, Render, et al. which is the second largest Healthcare Law Firm in the US.  He has extensive experience in Coding as a profession.  He is a former member of AHIMA's Professional Ethics Committee, he has been an instructor for the Dept. of Justice Medicaid Integrity Institute, his writings have been published in several professional publications and he speaks throughout the United States.  You won't want to miss his teaching!
 
His presentation will focus on:
§  Procedure Coding for Skin Lesions and Laceration
§  Credible Sources for Information & CMS Links
 
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 23rd  – A Workshop focused on HIPAA and HITECH
Stephen D. Rose is a Seattle-based attorney who speaks throughout the United States on HIPAA and related subjects.  His firm, Garvey, Schubert, Barer focuses on healthcare law.  It is both a national firm and an international firm.  He has been published in several publications.  Recently he has published articles in "Washington Healthcare News" and his firm provides a publication entitled "Garvey Schubert Barer Legal Update."  Stephen is very knowledgeable and as a Washington attorney brings a special attention to the perspective of federal law vs. state law.
